I’ll be headed to my first Carolina Cup horse race in Camden, South Carolina on Saturday.
I think Nathan knows what he is going to wear. I think Tracy has finally gotten everything together after a catastrophe was averted in the placement of the monogram on her hat. Her dress is fitted (and she looks good in it.)
I too, have figured out my choice for the day. Seersucker, white shirt, Vineyard Vines bow tie, blue pocket square, and loafers. That is of course only if some one out there wants to rush deliver me a horse racing bow tie to wear. I decided to go the route of looking through my closet. I may change my mind before Saturday anyways. But never let those types of things stop you from sending me neck wear. @aaronhommell is the twitter if you need to get in touch with me to send me stuff. I’m always open to shamelessly promoting your business on my blog.
Enough with the shameless plug urging those who sew great bows to send me some. Even if those people are great people and are the salt of the earth.
With getting ready for this weekend, there has also be considerable talk about what we are drinking for the tailgate. I have bourbon already on hand and that would make a great horse race libation, but I was worried about the availability of ice all day. I was especially questioning the likely hood that there would be ice in the sea of tailgaters who will likely never see a horse, but only the bottom of a cheap beer can and want all the ice to keep those frat-stones cold.
I asked Tracy what she thought and she (as a Cup regular) assured me that there was nothing to be worried about. Here is where things got funny. I have posted the text screenshot below.
My girl has seen me have a “couple beers” in front of her a handful of times. I can’t imagine what Nathan, and his Pike fraters are going to encourage me to drink while I’m at this horse race. On top of this, SAE (my brotherhood) will have plenty of chapters attending and having there own shindig that I may shimmy my way around. Who knows?
What I do know (other than I like to narrate my own life apparently (see text above)) is that if there is a tailgate or an event where day drinking is present, I’m not far away. Granted, I’m not always the life of the party. In undergrad, I was a senior at my last college football game before I had a beer during the game. Why? I was always the kid calling the games on the radio. Radio+Beer=no bueno.
However, when I’m not working, sign me up. If tailgating was a basketball game, I’d be the kid who fouls a lot and scores early but not often. Everyone remembers that I was there. (oddly enough this is my real life basketball presence as well)
I guess I will just have to wait and see how it goes. Hopefully you will follow my journey by following me on twitter @aaronhommell.
